Head of Business Development
As Head of Business Development, you’ll have full Sales & Marketing responsibility and are the Business booster in achieving Essent’s ambition to become the sustainable Energy Infrastructure Solutions market leader in Dutch market by 2030.
As Energy Infrastructure Solutions (EIS) we design, build, own and operate sustainable energy infrastructure. e.g.: heating and cooling grids, combined with PV, EV, Batteries.
The Business Unit EIS was founded in 2020 and has grown exponentially.
In your role as Head of Business Development you take the lead in scaling up and developing our market share in Energy Infrastructure Solutions in The Netherlands, from contact to a signed contract and handover to the Design and Build team.
As Head of Business Development you will operate with autonomy, be accountable for de-livering commercial and customer/contract targets in a complex and evolving business with multiple internal and external interfaces across a national geographical spread.
Your main tasks and responsibilities include:
- Translating company and EIS objectives into commercial business plans and ensuring effective development and implementation of commercial strategies.
- Accountable for performance in a complex and evolving business and market as de-fined in the business plan (financial, contracted profit, signed contracts) to budget and quality. Responsible for proactive steering of a commercial pipeline that will generate business in the Netherlands.
- Managing and steering two teams of professionals (15Fte) and growing): the market development (marketing & communication and subsidy experts) and sales & customer team (segment leads, project developers and tender managers).
- As key member of the EIS leadership team contributing to the overall objectives of EIS NL.
- Responsible for the prioritization, coordination and deployment of capex, opex and other resources in line with delegations of authority and business plan.
- Further develop strong network in Dutch heating and cooling industry, development and build sector. Building strong relationships with stakeholders and customers.
- Develop cross function / business working collaboration within Essent’s business units in the Netherlands and with the wider E.ON businesses including the central EIS team and other EIS countries.
- Sets the standard in the relevant sales processes and uses the multi-level principle to actively participate in sales processes and customer / stakeholder interactions
- Is a magnet for talent, attracting, developing and retaining a motivated diverse team
- Team player. Seeks solid rapport and collaboration with the integral EIS team as well as the Essent/EON bigger team.
You’ll report to the Director EIS and are part of the EIS Leadership team,
This role is the ideal opportunity for a New Business/ commercial manager of a large-scale project driven business, with a vast network in the Dutch energy market of heating/ cooling, development and build sectors, and experience in a complex technical program driven and (international) environment.
Furthermore, understanding of the Dutch energy market and supplier markets are necessary for success in this role.
The education & experience required for the job include:
- Academic degree with a profound knowledge and proven track record of sales of energy infrastructure solutions (or similar project driven industries)
- 10+ year experience in leading teams and professional and commercial roles
- Deep knowledge of the Dutch heat and cold distribution market or adjacent markets with large scale asset development and B2B interaction.
- Have a systematic approach to identify where to play, determining propositions of choice as well as what opportunities to focus on. In addition have experience in directing & structuring commercial activities and managing scale up processes.
- Possess a relevant network in relevant industry.
- Strong communication in Dutch & English languages to be succesfull in the Dutch Energy market.
- Knowledge and experience in setting up DBFMO contracts, contract management and con-tract negotiations. Risk management: high risk awareness and ability to manage and miti-gate risks in a balanced way ensuring future profits.
- Knowledge of Tender- and Bid management.
Competencies & other qualifications required for the job include:
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, articulate (oral and written) and effective at all levels within a matrix organization as well as externally facing, for example: e.g, large con-tractors, customers, governmental bodies, large business (Joint Venture) partners
- Sales negotiations skills: experience and high drive to close deals and contracts.
- People management skills to empower and inspire commercial the team and create a cul-ture of trust, transparency and performance.
